ECBC European Covered Bond Fact Book

The EMF-ECBC is pleased to present the latest edition of the ECBC European Covered Bond Fact Book, which is intended to be a benchmark and comprehensive source of information on the covered bond asset class.

The European Covered Bond Fact Book Data Hub presents the statistics gathered by the ECBC on the outstanding volume and annual gross supply of covered bonds since 2003. The tool’s aim is to provide a visual representation, with individual and flexible filters, that can serve as a reliable source of data for interested parties, ranging from issuers to investors and regulators.

The ECBC data covers market developments over the past 20 years for 36 different countries.

CHAPTER II "GENERIC SECTION"

provides an Overview of Covered Bond market, detailed explanation on the different Regulatory Issues in the Covered Bond market, The Repo Treatment of Covered Bonds by Central Banks, the spread between Covered Bonds vs. Other Asset Classes and ESG Regulatory, more specifically, the regulatory requirements designed to enhance transparency and accountability around disclosure of sustainability-related data.

CHAPTER III "THE ISSUER'S PERSPECTIVE"

presents an overview of the legislation and markets in 42 different countries, demonstrating the worldwide success and recognition, and the continued spread of the asset class.

CHAPTER IV "RATING AGENCIES & METHODOLOGY"

sets out credit rating agencies’ various covered bond methodologies.

CHAPTER V "SYSTEM PROVIDERS"

highlights the importance of system providers for the covered bond market and allows four system providers to provide valuable insights on their role in enhancing transparency and synergies in the market.

CHAPTER VI "COVERED BOND STATISTICS"

provides a description of trends in the covered bond market, as well as a complete set of covered bond statistics up to the end of 2024.
