On 9 April 2019, the European Commission launched an open public consultation on the Directive on Distance Marketing on Financial Services, giving to relevant stakeholders the opportunity to express their views on its functioning.
The EC explains that the consultation aims to assess whether the Directive, after seventeen years, is still fit for purpose given all the market and legislative developments that have taken place since its entry into force in 2002. The Commission will publish the conclusions of this evaluation exercise by the end of 2019.
